Who are they? quick bio
A native of Lubbock, Texas, Shires is an accomplished songwriter and fiddler. Amanda Shires has been a prominent figure within Americana and has worked both as a side musician and as a solo artist. Her breakthrough came when she joined Jason Isbell ‘s the 400 Unit, which not only brought her a Grammy but set the stage for the release of ‘To the Sunset,’ her first album to reach beyond the confines of Americana. Shires’ entry into the big leagues was confirmed when she joined Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby in the country supergroup the Highwomen, who released their debut in 2019.
Her newest album, ‘Take It Like A Man,’ was released earlier this summer and met with high praise from her peers, with Pitchfork raving, “Amanda Shires reclaims her voice on new ‘Take It Like A Man’ album…. Some of her most vulnerable music yet.”
